When Can I Book My Driving Test Again
As the Coronavirus hit the UK, driving tests and theory tests (apart from critical workers) were suspended back in March 2020. After contact with the DVSA, chatting with other driving schools and some of the local test centre examiners we have some info. When Can I Book My Driving Test is some advice on what we know as of today (15/08/20).

When And Why Were Tests Cancelled
The driving test was suspended on the 20th March and the theory tests a day earlier on the 19th. As the country eased out of lockdown on the 4th July, theory and practical tests resumed.
Due to the close proximity between the driving examiner and the candidate all driving tests were suspended. Sitting in a car, you’re unable to comply with the 2-metre social distancing guidelines and driving tests and lessons were deemed to be unsafe.
When Can I Book My Theory Test Again
You can book your theory test as of the 4th of July. Due to social distancing in the theory test centre, there are less computer spaces. We’ve noticed a longer wait for an appointment. Some people are waiting up to two months, so get yourself booked in early!
If you’re not worried about travelling a little further, why not check out test centres somewhere else. The theory test is the same wherever you go and you might get an earlier appointment in another town or city.

When Can I Book My Driving Test Again
Driving tests resumed on the 22nd of July 2020, roughly 3 weeks after lessons restarted. This was to give students sufficient time to practice for their test after 4 months of lockdown. However, candidates that had their tests cancelled due to the pandemic have been invited to re-book their driving test first. You still can’t book a driving test at the moment unless you had one cancelled due to the pandemic.
Once all the cancelled tests have been completed the DVSA will reopen the booking services for everyone.
Critical Workers
As of yesterday 14/08/20, the online service for critical workers to book emergency tests was closed. Any successful test applications already applied for before this date will still be honoured.
When Will The Booking Service Reopen For Everyone
As the country goes back to work the DVSA are focussed on returning to normal services. Their plan is to move away from offering driving tests exclusively for critical workers and reopen all services to the general public. First, they must offer tests to everyone that had a test cancelled during Coronavirus.
At a guess, if you think about how long driving tests were cancelled for during the pandemic, it could take the same time again to re-allocate new test dates. It could be at least another month until booking services reopen if not longer. We’ve heard rumours that at some of the smaller test centres it could be closer to Christmas before you can book a test, but this is not for definite.
We’ll keep you updated on any changes we hear of.
